Hong Kong businesses are constantly looking for ways to add quality and value to their products and services. Increasingly, corporate leaders recognise that it makes business sense to incorporate environmental measures into their corporate agenda because environmentally friendly practices build customer satisfaction, gain community respect, increase productivity and give them an edge over competitors. Established in 1999, the Hong Kong Eco-Business Awards aim to educate organisations about the importance of environmental management and to recognise those who have already embraced the concept of environmental protection.

Waste Reduction and Energy Conservation with particular focus on Clean Air are the main environmental themes for this year. The organisers would like to take this opportunity to inform business sector that every small step taken by them to support the clean-air and waste reduction initiatives in their daily operations can help reduce air pollution and soothe the pressure to the landfills. The organisers thus increase the weighted scores on the aspects of Waste Reduction, Energy Conservation and Clean Air. Applicant organisations which are outstanding in these aspects in their operations will obtain higher scores in the assessment process.
In addition, there
is a Wastewi$e
Scheme to commend and recognise waste reduction efforts of commercial
and industrial companies and to promote waste minimisation, collection/recycling
of recyclables and buying/manufacturing of recycled products.
