2006 Hong Kong Eco-Business Awards Launching Ceremony

The 2006 Hong Kong Eco-Business Awards Launching Ceremony cum Wastewi$e Logo Presentation was held on 6 September 2006 at Meeting Room 601, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Wan Chai.

The Launching Ceremony was officiated by Dr. Michael Chiu, JP, Acting Permanent Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works (Environment); Mr. Joseph Lee, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC); Ms. Goretti Lau, Convenor of the ECC’s Business Partnership Working Group; Dr. John Wong, JP, Committee Member and Member of Environmental Concern Sub-committee of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC); Dr. W.K. Chan, JP, Senior Director (Business Policy) of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) and Mr. Tsang Kam Lam, General Manager (Environmental Management Division) of Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC).

In order to echo the Action Blue Sky Campaign recently launched by the government in July and other government initiatives on waste management, Energy Conservation and Waste Reduction were set as the main environmental themes for the 2006 Hong Kong Eco-Business Awards. This year, five categories of awards were introduced, namely Green SME Award, Green Innovative Practice Award, Green Property Management Award (Commercial and Industrial Buildings), Green Property Management Award (Public Housing) and Green Property Management Award (Private Housing). At the ceremony, three Grand Award winners of the 2005 Hong Kong Eco-Business Awards, namely Gammon Construction Limited, Kai Shing Management Services Limited (Castello) and Hong Kong Housing Society (Lai Tak Tsuen), were invited to share their experiences in environmental management at the Ceremony. More than 300 distinguished guests from various public and private organisations joined the ceremony. In addition, 111 Gold Wastewi$e Logo awardees and 27 Wastewi$e Logo awardees took group photos with the officiating guests at the ceremony.
